You can add another dimension to your home by adding an Oak Frame Garden room. Garden Rooms also known as Orangeries and conservatories can offer you that extra space you may be desperately in need if such as an office or a family room or can simply be an indulgent addition “just because”. To be able to sit and enjoy the lovely english surroundings can be the biggest treat of all!
Garden rooms can be attached to your home but they can also be a completely separate building. Here at Hortus ligneous we have been commissioned to build a variety of garden rooms- what links them all in similarities is the use of Oak. An Oak framed garden room offers you individuality, strength and longevity. Using kiln dried oak and time tested traditional carpentry methods ; mortise and tennon joints with oak pegs, oak rafters and oak knee braces can offer a traditional look that compliments the architecture of the existing house. Unlike modern conservatories with a glazed roof , an oak framed garden room has the benefit of a solid insulated roof and is designed to provide light and accommodation all year round.
A garden room doesn’t have to consist of a building from scratch- you can create your own garden room restoring/renovating what your home already has to offer. In Thorpe Satchville, Leicestershire a barn was converted and the gable end was supported making way for large floorr to ceiling windows and bifold doors- offering light and the feeling of “bringing the outside in”. A garden room feel in an instant…( not quite an instant!!)
In Thorpe By Water, Rutland, an old unused room has been spruced up by adding three sets of oak bifold doors and an bespoke oak roof lantern. Thus creating a garden room / kitchen diner fit for purpose in this busy family home.
As I said previously garden rooms don’t have to be attached to your home, in the Vale of Belvoir we built an Oak frame luxurious swimming pool. It boasted oak framing, handmade bifold doors, windows and was finished in oak claddingThis oak structure stands proud, compliments the surroundings and offers the owners ultimate luxury!
